When Segun Aina joined the National Youth Service Corps in 2010, he served as a Computer Systems Engineer and analyst with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), a modest beginning that would later become part of an inspiring academic success story.

Sixteen years later, Aina has risen to become one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at the age of 39, following his elevation at Obafemi Awolowo University.

Aina’s journey from a young NYSC member attached to JAMB to a respected scholar and technology entrepreneur has attracted attention within Nigeria’s academic community.

According to information published on his personal profile, Aina completed his compulsory national service with JAMB in 2010 shortly after earning degrees in the United Kingdom.

He obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent in 2008 and later earned a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security from Loughborough University in 2009 before proceeding to obtain a PhD in Digital Signal Processing.

Now a professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at OAU, Aina has built a reputation for combining academic research with practical solutions in technology and education. Colleagues reportedly credited his promotion to strong research output, leadership roles and efforts to bridge the gap between theory and real-world innovation.

Reacting to his appointment, Aina described the achievement as a reminder that discipline and purpose-driven work can accelerate impact.

“This milestone is a humbling reminder that excellence, discipline and purpose-driven work can accelerate impact,” he said.

Beyond academia, the professor co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Ltd in 2010, an IT and engineering project management company with interests spanning education technology, agriculture, hospitality and vocational education.

He has also consulted for public institutions including the Office of the Vice President, state governments and examination bodies, while serving on the governing council of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology.

With nearly 30 peer-reviewed publications and memberships in several engineering and technology professional bodies, Aina’s rise is increasingly being seen as an example of how young Nigerian scholars are shaping the future of education and innovation.
