President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), replacing Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose tenure ends on July 31, 2026.
Aina, 39, becomes the youngest person to head the examination body.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aina is a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, with expertise in digital systems, examination administration and institutional reforms.
He earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, before obtaining a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
The new JAMB registrar also attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Aina reportedly began his association with JAMB during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, where he gained experience in examination processes and admissions administration.
Over the years, he has worked with several government institutions on digital transformation projects and educational system reforms.
He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), advising on ICT systems and examination integrity.
Aina is a member of professional organisations such as the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would build on the achievements recorded by Oloyede and further improve the operations of the examination body.
