Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked the convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Borno State, Mustapha Gubio.

The attack reportedly occurred along the Gubio-Kareto-Damasak highway while the convoy was returning to Maiduguri after Gubio’s visit to Damasak.

The attackers were said to have used improvised explosive devices, rocket-propelled grenades and gunfire during the assault.

Security personnel attached to the convoy, including soldiers, police, DSS, NSCDC, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local vigilantes, reportedly engaged the attackers and repelled the assault.

Gubio and members of his entourage were safely evacuated, with no casualties reported.

A police armoured vehicle was, however, reportedly damaged during the attack.

Gubio emerged as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate and had been touring parts of the state as part of activities following his emergence.
