No NFF Representative As Former Flying Eagle Star Is Finally Laid To Rest

The remains of former Flying Eagles captain, Isaac Promise has been laid to rest in a small ceremony in Imo State.

Concerns are however raised about the neglect by officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) who have been alleged to have totally boycotted the burial ceremony even though a family source they were duly informed and invited.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that Isaac, who was Nigeria’s captain at the 2003 Under17 World Cup in Finland and 2005 Under20 World Cup in Netherlands was honoured by his Spanish club but seem to be totally forgotten in death by his country’s football administrators.

Late Isaac, who was also an Olympic Silver medalist at Beijing 2008 reportedly died of a heart attack on October 2, 2019, in America.

His remains was laid to rest on Friday, January 10th at his hometown in Umudim, Ohekelem area of Imo State.

Reacting to the absence of the NFF at the burial ceremony, a Family member who prefers anonymity disclosed to the press that it surprises them that Isaac seems to be forgotten by Nigeria’s Sport Administrators as they were duly informed of the burial arrangements and also sent invitation but no representative showed up.

He said, “Imagine a former captain of Nigeria and there were no NFF representatives among the audience and not even a former teammate.

“This is another lesson for footballers, you are only important when you are actively involved in the game because no one cares after your career is over.”

A handful of Nigerian football lovers have taken to the social media as they criticise the absence of NFF at the burial of the former Flying Eagle and Antalyaspor striker.

Promise represented Nigeria at U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels. He was part of the Flying Eagles team that won Silver at the 2005 World Youth Championship, while he also won Silver Medal with the Dream team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
