The 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina has drew an extraordinary gathering of world leaders, royalty and global celebrities to the New York-New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, with iconic pre-game performances from amazing superstars.
Among the most prominent dignitaries in attendance was United States President Donald Trump, who arrived aboard Marine One shortly before kick-off.
Trump watched the match from a VIP suite alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino and was expected to join the post-match trophy presentation ceremony for the newly crowned world champions.
Spain’s King Felipe VI led the Spanish royal delegation, accompanied by Queen Letizia and their daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, as they cheered on La Roja in their bid for a second FIFA World Cup title.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was also present, highlighting the national significance of Spain’s appearance in the final.
The leaders of the other World Cup co-hosts also attended the showpiece event. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum joined FIFA officials and other international guests in the stadium, reflecting the joint hosting arrangement between the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In contrast, Argentine President Javier Milei was absent from the final despite his country’s participation. According to his office, Milei chose to watch the match from home, citing a long-held personal superstition.
The final also attracted a glittering array of celebrities from the worlds of film, music and sport.
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise attended after taking part in the tournament’s closing ceremony, while music stars Shakira,Burna Boy, Madonna, BTS, Robbie Williams, Laura Pausini and Nicole Scherzinger featured in the day’s entertainment.
Sporting icons including Serena Williams, Tom Brady and Carlos Alcaraz were also among the high-profile guests.
The unprecedented gathering of political leaders, royalty and entertainment stars reinforced the FIFA World Cup final’s status as one of the world’s biggest sporting events, with billions of viewers following the historic showdown between Spain and defending champions Argentina.
