President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) as part of a fresh round of appointments into federal government agencies and commissions.
Fayose, a staunch supporter of Peter Obi was recently reported to have decamped from Obidient movements, declaring support for president Tinubu.
The appointment was announced on Monday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that Tinubu approved the appointment of 26 individuals into the boards and management of 10 federal government agencies and commissions. The appointments take immediate effect.
Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and two-term governor of Ekiti State, will now chair the board of the Rural Electrification Agency, the federal agency responsible for expanding access to electricity in underserved and rural communities across Nigeria.
Other appointments announced by the President include Major General Junaid Bindawa (retd.) as Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, alongside several other board chairmen and management officials across key government institutions.
Fayose’s appointment marks a significant political development, given his long-standing membership of the opposition PDP and his public relationship with President Tinubu despite belonging to different political parties.
In 2025, Fayose had revealed that he declined an earlier offer to serve in the Tinubu administration, saying he wanted to stay away from public office after serving as governor.
