What was supposed to be a regular night at the fashion’s biggest event, Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday night was interrupted by a surprise engagement.
The two lovers who took over the night were the New York City culture commissioner Laurie Cumbo and her long-time lover, former state Assembly candidate Bobby Digi Olisa.
While strolling down the star-studded red carpet, Cumbo was met with the biggest surprise of her life when she saw Olisa dropped to one knee, popping the most important question, ‘Will you marry me?’
The visibly shocked commissioner who couldn’t hold back her excitement said ‘Yes’. Amid tears, Cumbo kissed and hugged her fiancé on the red carpet to the cheers of the onlooking crowd.
After the tears stopped, Cumbo told newsmen that she had been with Olisa for eight years and they have a 5-year-old son.
“This is the best day ever,” she was quoted as saying by WNBC.
Tagged the biggest fashion event, Met Gala ball traditionally holds every first Monday in May. This year’s event was themed “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”
Vogue reported that the event’s dress code, ‘Gilded Glamour and White Tie’, saw celebrities and prominent personalities from all walks of life delving into the fashion archives of late-nineteenth-century New York.
