Iran Threatens Retaliation Over U.S. Blockade, Labels Action ‘Banditry’

Iran’s military has warned it will respond to continued United States naval operations in the Gulf, escalating tensions as a blockade of Iranian ports enters a critical phase.

In a statement carried by state media on Saturday, Iran’s central military command said any continuation of what it described as U.S. “blockade, banditry and piracy” would trigger a response from its armed forces.

The warning comes amid an ongoing U.S.-led blockade targeting vessels entering and leaving Iranian ports, part of broader efforts to pressure Tehran during the protracted conflict between both nations.

Iranian officials have repeatedly condemned the blockade as illegal, accusing Washington of violating international norms and threatening regional stability. The latest statement signals a potential shift toward a more direct confrontation if the standoff persists.

The U.S. military action, which began earlier in April, has already seen several vessels intercepted and heightened naval deployments in strategic waterways, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the rising rhetoric, diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the crisis remain ongoing, with talks expected to resume in the coming days.

However, analysts warn that the increasingly combative tone from Tehran raises the risk of further military escalation in an already volatile region.

The latest development underscores the fragile state of U.S.-Iran relations, as both sides continue to balance military pressure with intermittent diplomatic engagement.
