The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to content creators across Nigeria, cautioning against the unauthorised use of its name, logo and official identity in skits and other media productions.
In a statement released on Saturday, the anti-graft agency said it had observed a growing trend of individuals incorporating its identity into online content without approval, stressing that such portrayals often misrepresent its operations and values.
The commission made it clear that it has not authorised any individual or group to use its branding for entertainment or commercial purposes, adding that it does not endorse or sponsor any such productions.
According to the EFCC, many of the skits circulating on social media distort its standard operating procedures and institutional image, prompting the agency to act to protect its reputation.
It warned that anyone found using its name, logo, uniforms or other identifying elements without prior written approval would face legal consequences, including prosecution.
The development comes amid rising concerns over impersonation and fake enforcement activities, with the commission previously raising alarm over individuals posing as EFCC operatives to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The agency urged content creators and the general public to comply with its directive, emphasising that any legitimate use of its identity must receive formal clearance.
The warning underscores increasing regulatory scrutiny of digital content in Nigeria, particularly as authorities move to curb misinformation and protect institutional integrity in the rapidly expanding online media space.
