Award-winning Aftobeats Star, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the 2026 Osun State governorship election amid growing political tensions in the state.
Davido made the appeal via his X handle in a statement on Tuesday as concerns over political violence and disruptions continued to dominate discussions ahead of the August 15 election.
The singer specifically addressed Trump, urging the US president to take note of developments in Osun and encouraging international observers to monitor the electoral process.
His intervention comes against the backdrop of escalating political disagreements in the state, with reports of attacks, allegations of intimidation and clashes between rival political camps.
Davido said his major concern was the safety of voters and the protection of the democratic process.
“Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he said.
He called on the United States and other members of the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that votes are respected.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” the singer said.
His comments come as political stakeholders continue to express concern over the atmosphere ahead of the poll. The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), for instance, recently urged political parties to “sheathe their sword” and stressed the need for a peaceful election.
The election has also been overshadowed by a dispute involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Osun State Government over the freezing of state government accounts, further heightening political tensions in the days leading to the poll.
