In a vibrant celebration of African culture, creativity and heritage in the heart of Bradford, Ajidans Studios Productions has presented its latest stage production, “ORITA (The Crossroads),” exploring themes of love, migration, identity, struggles and life choices.
The play, written and directed by Ajide Adeyemi Olamilekan, was staged as the command performance for the Festival Theatre Night during the festival held from August 5 to 8, 2026.
Inspired by the Yoruba traditional concept of Irosun Meji, the production tells a story about the challenges people face when they reach important turning points in life.
“ORITA,” which means “The Crossroads,” uses African musical theatre elements such as drumming, chanting, dance, singing and storytelling to portray everyday struggles and the search for solutions.
The play follows the people of Ayedun as they navigate destiny, relationships, personal struggles and difficult decisions.
It also features Princess Irokojigbini, who seeks a man with qualities of love, strength, responsibility and protection, and Olode, who watches people make choices at the crossroads of life.
According to the producers, the performance is not just a regular stage play but a reflection on human experiences, encouraging audiences to think about their past decisions, present situations and future direction.
“ORITA” explores how choices and actions shape people’s lives, while asking a key question: Who do people turn to when they find themselves at a crossroads?
The production’s appearance at the Bradford African Festival of Arts highlights the growing influence of African theatre in promoting culture, tradition and conversations around shared human experiences.
