10 things to know about late Nollywood actor, Dejo Tunfulu

Yoruba movie lovers are still feeling the shock that came with the news that comic actor, Kunle Makinde Adetokunbo popularly known as Dejo Tunfulu has passed on.

Though details of his death were sketchy at the time Blackbox Nigeria filed the report, actor Kunle Afod confirmed the development. The movie star was said to have breathed his last aged 50.

Here are 10 interesting facts you should know about Dejo Tunfulu.

1. Although, he was born in Idumota, Lagos Island, Dejo was raised in Ikija, Abeokuta in Ogun State.

2. He completed his primary school education at Ansar-Ud-Deen Primary School, Lagos Island, and later proceeded to Dolphin High School, Ebute Elefun, Lagos.

3. Dejo got a certificate in printing from the Modern Way Nigeria School of Printing.

4. He ventured into the movie profession officially when he featured for the first time on a television programme titled “Theatre Omode” on Nigeria Television Authority NTA Channel 7.

5. Dejo got his stage name when starred in his first movie titled, ‘Aje ni Iya mi’. In that movie, he played the role of Dejo.

6. In 1987, he got his first TV appearance in the drama series, ‘Apere Ijongbon’ which was created by the Kolawole International Theatre Group, which he was also a member of.

7. He rose to stardom when he starred in the movie titled, ‘Omo Oran’, a film directed by veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor, Fatai Adetayo fondly called Lalude.

8. Dejo lived close to two other veteran Nollywood Yoruba actors namely, Fausat Balogun (Madam Saje) and Kayode Olasehinde (Baba Ajirebi) as he got the opportunity to learn from them at a young age.

9. He lost his wife, Adesola Olakunle in December 2012 and remarried to Deola Idowu Gunwa, a secondary school teacher at the former Concord Newspaper in Ikeja.

10. He was blessed with children and grandchildren.
