Chief Lekan Alabi, the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland and a respected veteran journalist, has died at the age of 76.
Alabi passed away on Saturday morning in Lagos.
His death was announced in a statement by Adeola Oloko, the media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
A distinguished media professional, Alabi served as press secretary to several former governors of Oyo State during his career.
He was widely recognized for his contributions to journalism, public communication, and the preservation of Ibadan’s cultural heritage.
The statement announcing his passing read in part: “The veteran journalist and multiple press secretary to former Oyo State governors, Lekan Alabi, is dead. The Abese Olubadan passed away this morning in Lagos at the age of 76.”
According to the statement, the late traditional chief will be laid to rest on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
His death marks the end of a distinguished career in journalism and public service, during which he earned respect as both a media professional and a prominent traditional titleholder in Ibadanland.
