AC Milan has confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss the UEFA Champions League opener against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday due to an Achilles injury.
The Swedish striker is being rested as a precaution after feeling painful sensations in his Achilles tendon while training on Tuesday morning.
The 39-year-old returned on Sunday after four months following a knee injury.
He scored in Milan’s 2-0 victory against Lazio to become Serie A’s oldest foreign goal scorer.
After the match, Milan coach, Stefan Pioli said, “Ibrahimovic never gets old and he has great passion, a fire burning inside him.”
He added, “He competes to win, he always trains to the maximum and he does so with pleasure. When you are like that you do not feel the years go by.”
