Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are reportedly set to share a £150 million ($198 million) purse when the two British heavyweight stars finally meet in Cardiff on December 11.
The long-awaited bout will take place at the Principality Stadium and will be streamed globally on Netflix, with the fight expected to become one of the biggest events in British boxing history.
According to reports, the purse will be divided equally, meaning Fury and Joshua are each expected to receive about £75 million ($99 million) from the fight.
The reported 50-50 split means neither fighter has been designated as the financial “A-side” despite their different career records and commercial profiles.
Punch, citing The Sun, reported that the £150 million prize pot would give both fighters their biggest single-fight earnings to date.
The reported figure would be around £10 million more than the previous career-high purse of approximately £65 million for each boxer.
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has also confirmed that the two heavyweights will receive more than any British fighter has previously earned for a single bout, although he did not publicly disclose the exact amount each man will receive.
Joshua reportedly pushed for the fight to be staged in Britain rather than the United States. New York’s Madison Square Garden had previously been considered, but Cardiff was ultimately selected for the December contest.
Joshua said his position was that it was “the UK or nothing,” pointing to the role British boxing played in his career.
The fight has taken years to materialise. Joshua and Fury were previously linked to a proposed two-fight deal in 2021, but the plan collapsed as Fury had to fulfil contractual obligations surrounding his trilogy with Deontay Wilder. Both fighters subsequently faced Oleksandr Usyk, with Usyk defeating each of them twice.
The exact amount each boxer will ultimately take home could differ from the reported purse after taxes, management fees and other deductions.
The December showdown will be the first professional meeting between Fury and Joshua and is scheduled for Friday, December 11, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
