By Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Bayern Munich thrashed FC Barcelona 3-0 at Camp Nou in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League Group E clash.
It appears the exit of talisman Lionel Messi has dealt a big blow on Ronald Koeman’s side. Barcelona, playing their first European game since the Argentine’s departure, were outplayed by the German champions, failing to muster a single shot on target.
A deflected opener from Thomas Mueller followed by Lewandowski’s double was all it took to expose the Blaugrana’s growing frailty in the presence of less than 40,000 fans.
Mueller got his seventh career goal against the Catalans, while Lewandowski poked his 74th and 75th Champions League goals.
Barcelona have now lost three consecutive home games in European competition for the first time in their entire history.
Recall Bayern Munich ruthlessly humiliated the Blaugrana last year, defeating them 8-2 in one of the most eye-opening Champions League knockout games in recent times.
Meanwhile, the German side now lead Group E, with the other game, between Benfica and Dinamo Kiev, finishing in a goalless draw.
