Nigeria’s sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, has clinched another gold medal after winning the women’s 100m hurdles event at the ongoing 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.

The world record holder delivered a dominant performance on Wednesday night, crossing the finish line in 12.83 seconds to secure Nigeria’s first gold medal of the championship.

Amusan, who entered the competition as favourite, comfortably outpaced her rivals to retain her status as Africa’s leading hurdler and claim her third continental title in the event following previous victories in 2018 and 2022.

Her compatriot, Adaobi Tabugbo, also impressed by winning bronze in the same event, helping Team Nigeria strengthen its medal haul at the championship.

The victory further extends Amusan’s remarkable dominance in African athletics and comes months after she won silver at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

World Athletics president, Sebastian Coe, reportedly presented the gold medal to the Nigerian star after the race.

The African Senior Athletics Championships are being held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, with several top athletes from across the continent competing for honours.
