President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved Nigeria’s bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
Among those present at the meeting were Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau; Special Adviser to the CAF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick; and CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is expected to hold in October and will bring together presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and key football administrators across the continent.
The CAF Awards ceremony, regarded as one of the biggest events in African football, honours outstanding players, coaches and football personalities from across Africa.
Hosting both events is seen as a major boost for Nigeria’s profile in continental football administration and sports development.
