Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primaries ahead of the state election.

Fubara announced his decision in a statement on Wednesday, saying the move followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends and political associates.

The governor said his decision was driven by the need to prioritise peace, stability and unity in Rivers State above personal ambition.

According to him, leadership requires sacrifice, stressing that the interest of the state must come first at a critical time like this.

Fubara thanked his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices throughout his political journey, while acknowledging the disappointment many may feel over his withdrawal.

He said his silence in recent weeks was “deliberate and strategic,” adding that he had faced “immense pressures and difficult choices.”

“As our elders say, not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace. Some truths are best borne quietly, not out of fear, but out of wisdom and restraint for the sake of peace and a greater purpose,” he stated.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the APC and President Bola Tinubu for their support and encouragement.

Fubara urged party members and supporters to remain committed to the APC, describing the ruling party as “our collective home.”

He insisted that his withdrawal should not be seen as an act of weakness or surrender.

“I stepped aside not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” he said.

Fubara added that he remains committed to serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.
