“Senate Has No Right On Magu’s Acting Capacity” – House Of Reps Member, Jide Jimoh

A member of House of Representatives representing Mainland constituency, Hon. Jide Jimoh said the Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu  is permitted with President’s prerogative power as he stated that the Senate has no right to dictate how long Magu can hold the office even after he was rejected twice.

He disclosed this in Lagos while responding to issues that borders on the National Assembly.

The lawmaker said section 2 (3)‎ of the EFCC act is clear on the issue that there is nothing like screening of Chairman of the EFCC Commission which states that, “President of Federal Republic shall nominate chairman of EFCC and members of the commission subject to the approval of Senate.

He went on: “Now that  Magu has been disapproved by the Senate, he cannot be referred to as substantive EFCC chairman, and it cannot stop him from performing his acting roles . Senate has no right to do anything in Magu’s acting capacity, it is the President Muhammadu Buhari’s prerogative right to put in there”.

In a related development, Jimoh stressed that the refusal of the Senate to screen 27 REC officers does not mean that Senate will not do something.

“They  only stepped down the  screening of 27 Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), so let us wait after two weeks  before responding on this issue. Senate are not unions because only union that can give conditions.

Hon. Jimoh added that  ‎only the judiciary can interpret and clarify issue on refusal of Senate to approve EFCC chairman.

Meanwhile, on the issue of Dino Malaye’s alleged certificate scandal, the lawmaker said it is rather unfortunate that Melaye’s response to the issue  was arrogant .

“I believe we should be humble in whatever we are doing. Why is he singing that some people would be dealt with, that is too derogatory”.
