120 CSOs Urge Senate To Rescind Suspension Of Senator Ali Ndume

The Network of Civil Society Organisation in Nigeria, a body encompassing over 120 CSOs in the country has called on the Senate to as a matter of urgency rescind the suspension of Senator Ali Ndume (APC-Borno).

It would be recalled that Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, was last Wednesday suspended for a period of six months.

Hence, the entire electorate in Borno South have been deprived of any representation in the Senate for the next six months.

In a press conference organised by the group, the convener, NCSON, Dr. Nwambu Gabriel posited that the action of the senators was a misapplication of Section 21 of the Legislative Houses Powers and Privileges Act.

Gabriel said the suspension of Senator Ndume came as though the Senate was on a vengeance mission.

He said that the senators ought to have given more consideration to the interest of the people of Borno South by choosing to simply express their reservations on the matter.

He described the suspension as a clear case of witch-hunt, adding that Senator Ndume should be commended for drawing the attention of the Senate to issues that is fast eroding the integrity and sanctity of the Upper House.
