Gegenpressing originator, Ralf Rangnick, has informed the Manchester United board of his exit, meaning that he won’t take up the consultancy role which he was expected to take according to the earlier agreement between the English club and the German.

The 63-year-old gaffer joined the Old Trafford occupants as an interim manager last year, after succeeding Norweigan, Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer. He was expected to move into the boardroom in a consultancy role over the summer.

However, after accepting the Austrian national team job in April, Rangnick will not return to United for the consultancy role.

A statement from United read, “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months. By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

“We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”

The German was replaced by the Dutch, Erik Ten Hag in his managerial role at the club, in April. Rangnick endured a penurious tenure in charge of the Red Devils, as he managed to produce a below par win rate of 37.9%.
