From Tinubu to Onu: The 23 presidential aspirants to be screened by APC

Ahead of its rescheduled special convention, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has released a list of 23 presidential aspirants for screening.

It would be recalled that 28 hopefuls bought the APC presidential expression of interest and nomination forms, despite the N100m price tag, a development that got tongues talking.

However, the trio of the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, withdrew from the race and failed to submit their forms.

A group had also purchased the forms for the President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina. He, however, insisted that he wasn’t interested in running for the nation’s top job.

Meanwhile, there have been talks about former President, Goodluck Jonathan joining the presidential race. A coalition of Northern groups had also procured the nomination forms for him, but he denied authorizing the purchase, adding that he was yet to consider the request by Nigerians asking him to run for president.

The speculations may finally come to end as Jonathan’s name is missing on the list of presidential hopefuls to be screened by the APC.
