Oyo guber hopeful, Adelabu joins Accord Party, days after dumping APC

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Oyo State governorship aspirant, Adebayo Adelabu has formally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to Accord Party.

Adelabu, who failed to win the Oyo APC governorship primary, was said to have been dissatisfied with the outcome of the election, hence his decision to dump the ruling party. A serving senator, Teslim Folarin had clinched the APC ticket.

In a statement published on his social media pages, the aspirant announced that he has joined the Accord Party to pursue his ambition to become Oyo State governor.

Adelabu condemned the APC governorship primary election held last Friday, alleged that the exercise was characterized by fraud.

“It is needless to restate in details, reason for relinquishing my APC membership on the point that such reason is public knowledge. The man dies in him who keeps silent in the face of blatant injustice and the life of a lie is a matter of little time. Evil people struggle in vain in their conspiracy against their innocent fellowman because malice is a poor match for destiny,” he said.

“What is important above all is that my leaders, supporters and teeming people of Oyo State are hereby assured of my determination never to disappoint them in the pursuit of my gubernatorial ambition to reality by the Will of God. I wish to present my humble self for the Political Liberation Movement to rescue our pacesetting state from the bad operation of clueless and inept people in Government and in the other Party”.

Speaking on his plans for the people of Oyo State, Adelabu said he would inaugurate a new era of peace and progress in the State in line with his 7-Point Agenda when he becomes governor in 2013.

In 2019, the banker turned politician was the Oyo APC governorship candidate but lost to the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde, who has also won the ticket of his party – the PDP – for a second term in office.
