Oshoala Eyes Another CAF Player Award As She Makes Final Shortlist

Barcelona Femeni forward Asisat Oshoala has been named as one of the finalists for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.

The Super Falcons star and national teammate Chiamaka Nnadozie are the only Nigerians on the ten-player shortlist. Others who made the list include Ajara Nchout Njoya from Cameroon, Anissa Lahmari, Fatima Tagnaout, Ghizlane Chebbak from Morocco, Andile Dlamini, Hildah Magaia and Thembi Kgatlana from South Africa, Barbara Banda from Zimbabwe.

Oshoala, the current holder of the title, has won the African Women’s Footballer of the Year award for a record five times.

On the club side, she has been instrumental in Barcelona Femeni’s title defense in the 2023/24 LaLiga Femenina, scoring 5 goals in the league so far.

She also scored a goal during the team’s first game in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage against Benfica.

Oshoala has been at Barcelona Femeni since 2019 and has won twelve trophies with the club so far, including four league titles, three Supercopa de Espana Femenina, three Copa de la Reina, and two Women’s Champions League titles.

She has scored 97 goals in her Barcelona career and is the highest-scoring foreigner in the club’s history.

At the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Oshoala became the first African player to score goals at three Women’s World Cup finals, when she scored against Australia on Matchday 2.

She also left her mark on the tournament with a breathtaking performance, creating history and inspiring her team to a memorable victory.
