Oniru Royal Family Rejects Gbolahan Lawal As 15th Oniru, Calls On FG To Intervene

Fresh updates reaching BlacBox Nigeria at the moment confirms that the Oniru Royal Family has rejected the emergence of Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal (Abisogun II) as the duly 15th Oniru of Iru Land.

It was gathered that the family staged a protest to the Igbosere High Court to register their displeasure over the emergence of Oba Lawal, whom they claim is not a direct Prince/heir to the Oniru Stool. The family argued that according to the Oniru Royal Family Tree, the former Commissioner is an offspring of a Princess while his father is from the Ojora, another royal lineage in Lagos State.

It will be recalled that the tussle for the vacant Oniru stool has been on since December, 2019 with the likes of Aremo Adesegun Oniru and Prince Hakeem Ajasa in forefront of the battle. The drama however took a new turn on Thursday, June 4th when Prince Gbolahan Lawal was announced as the designated and crowned as the 15th Oniru of Iru Land within 72 hours which culminated in the presentation of staff of office on Sunday, June 7th by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Reacting to the new development, the aggrieved branch of the Royal Family which have been adjudged to be next in line for the throne, the Omowunmi Abisogun Oniru family protested the decision of the Lagos State Government saying that Gbolahan Lawal is not in line of throne in the family as he is a son of a Princess (which traditionally means he can not be crowned a king as he is not from a ruling house). The family claimed it was pure injustice by the State Government to the Abisogun family as they said best practices were jettisioned to impose Lawal on them.

The family then called on the Federal Government to prevail on Lagos State to reverse it’s decision and adopt the viable candidate in the person of Prince Hakeem Oriyomi Ajasa, which they said is a clear choice of the Abisogun ruling house.

As at the time of filing this report, all efforts to get the position of the Oniru palace on the new development from the royal family proved abortive as calls and messages sent were not returned.
