NURTW chieftain Kunle Poly remanded in Kirikiri over Idumota mayhem

A chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Worker (NURTW) in Lagos State, Adekunle Lawal, popularly known as Kunle Poly, has been remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for his alleged involvement in the recent crisis that rocked the streets of Idumota in January.

The supremacy between factions of the Lagos NURTW had resulted in a bloody clash which claimed lives, left many injured, and led to the destruction of properties in the axis.

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba axis of Lagos, on Monday, ruled that the NURTW leader be remanded until investigations are concluded over the matter.

Delivering the ruling, the judge noted that though the claims against him were yet to be proven untrue, Kunle Poly should be kept in Kirikiri Prison for the time being.

Interestingly, this development comes barely two days after the police granted the embattled union leader bail after he had spent 30 days at the facility of the Nigeria Police Zonal Monitoring Unit, Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, on the orders of the Yaba Chief Magistrate’s Court.
