End of road for billionaire kidnapper Evans as court jails him, two others for life

The troubles of kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, better known as Evans, appear to have soared after he, alongside two others, bagged a life sentence.

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Friday, found Evans and his accomplices — Uche Amadi and Okwuchukwu Nwachukwu — guilty of two counts of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping of the Managing Director of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Limited, Donatus Dunu.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Hakeem Oshodi stated that there was overwhelming evidence to prove the case against them.

The presiding judge noted that the Kidnapping Prohibition Law of Lagos State prescribed a mandatory life sentence for any individual found guilty of kidnapping.

The prosecution had told the court how Evans alongside the other five defendants while armed with guns and other weapons captured, detained and collected a ransom of 223,000 Euros from Donatus for his release.

He also revealed the video evidence of when the billionaire kidnapper was being interrogated as he showed no remorse for the crime.

The judge, however, discharged and acquitted the other co-defendants, Ogechi Uchechukwu, and two former soldiers — Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Aduba, saying that there was no evidence linking them to the crimes.

On August 31, 2017, the Lagos State Government had arraigned the defendants before Oshodi on a two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping.
