News Agency Boss, Bayo Onanuga, Tackles DSS Over Sowore’s Detention
The Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria, Bayo Onanuga has called out the Department of State Security for the continuous detention of Sahara Reporters Publisher, Omoyele Sowore.
The respected journalist in a Facebook post disclosed that it is disappointing that the nation’s top security agency will flout different Court orders and continue to detain Sowore, the Convener of RevolutionNow.
He said, “Disappointingly, the DSS is behaving like the SSS of the Military era. Denial of liberty to a citizen is bad enough and even worse when the Court twice ordered the freedom of the citizen. The Federal Attorney General should order the DSS free Sowore now. The agency is giving Buhari a bad name.”
He joins a handful of other Nigerians that have called on the DSS to free Sowore even after he has met his bail conditions.
It will be recalled that few weeks back, Sowore who is currently standing trial on felony charges was granted bail by an Abuja High Court and last Thursday, his lead counsel, Femi Falana SAN disclosed that he has met all bail conditions and should be released by Friday, November 8th.
As Friday passes and he still remains in detention, it was reported that the DSS alleged that no one has come forth to claim Sowore from its custody. Over the weekend, it was being speculated in the media that several groups were mobilising for a huge protest to the office of the DSS on Tuesday, November 12th, when official work resumes.
