A yet-to-be-identified man was rescued on Wednesday after reportedly jumping into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge, triggering panic among commuters and onlookers.
According to reports, the man had parked his vehicle on the busy bridge before climbing over the railings and plunging into the water below in what witnesses described as a sudden and shocking incident.
Emergency responders and security operatives were quickly alerted, and rescue efforts were immediately launched. He was later pulled out of the lagoon alive, averting what could have been a fatal outcome.
Eyewitnesses said the incident caused temporary disruption along the bridge, one of Lagos’ busiest routes linking the mainland to the island, as people gathered and authorities worked to manage the situation.
As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the man and the circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear, while officials are yet to issue a detailed statement.
The incident adds to a growing number of similar cases recorded on the bridge in recent times, raising fresh concerns over safety and emergency response measures on major public infrastructure in Lagos.
