Alhaja Sekinat Tolanikawo Adelakun-Akande, wife of popular Fuji musician Abass Akande Obesere, has officially declared her intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The aspirant announced her bid on Tuesday in Ibadan, stating that she will contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency.

Speaking at the declaration event held at St. Cyprian’s Primary School, Oluyoro, Adelakun-Akande said her decision was driven by a desire to serve the people and provide effective representation at the national level.

She described herself as a grassroots-oriented individual, pledging to amplify the voices of constituents and address their needs if elected.

“I am a people-oriented person… I want to represent and speak for my people,” she said, adding that her ambition is rooted in her connection with the community and commitment to public service.

The APC aspirant also promised to promote inclusive governance and gender balance, with a particular focus on women and the girl-child, while assuring constituents of integrity and responsive leadership.

Her declaration has drawn reactions within the party, with Oyo APC Women Leader, Adekemi Opatunde, calling for increased support for female participation in politics and urging party members to avoid gender bias.

Adelakun-Akande’s entry into the race is expected to add momentum to political activities in the constituency as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 general elections.
