After weeks of waiting, the leadership of the #EndSARS protest in Lagos State have nominated the duo of Majekodunmi and Rinu Oduala to represent the youths in the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the Lagos State government.
Following the nation wide protest which lasted for about 14 days coupled with the Lekki shooting and total unrest in Lagos State, the government set up the panel to put to effect the 5 of 5 demands of the protesters.
The Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had inaugurated the 8-man Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution to investigate complaints of police brutality in Lagos on October 19, 2020.
The panel is to look into the grievances of victims of SARS related abuses and the Lekki Toll Gate shooting.
The coalition of protest group across Lagos and Nigeria is a group of youth. This coalition, although a representation of some of the protest groups is meant to be the frontliner of the youth.
The group after series of votes, consultations and general voting across groups nominated Rinu Oduala and Majekodunmi Temitope Oluwaseun to representative them.
Majekodunmi Temitope Oluwaseun is a graduate from the Tai Solarin University of Education is an administrator and transformational leader.
He is also an activist and has been an advocate for ending police brutality in Nigeria. He was a major arrowhead of the #EndSARS protest in Alausa, Ikeja.
Rinu Oduala is a brand strategist and a passionate advocate for social justice. She has been one of those at the forefront of the #ENDSARS protest
Among other duties, Panel Representatives are tasked with listening to the submissions of survivors, interrogating the accused personnel, determining the veracity of all claims, recommending punishments for the guilty and appropriate compensation for the victims.
Sittings will take place on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm at the Lagos Court of Arbitration – 1A, Remi Olowude Street, Maruwa Roundabout, Lekki – Epe Expressway, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
