Teslim Adeboye Ajimobi, the younger brother of former Oyo State Governor, the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has died in London, exactly six years after the former governor’s passing.

Family sources confirmed that Teslim died on Thursday in the United Kingdom after a brief illness. His death came on the sixth anniversary of Senator Ajimobi’s demise on June 25, 2020, a coincidence that has shocked family members, friends and political associates.

Although details surrounding the circumstances of his death were still sketchy as of press time, condolences have continued to pour in from associates of the Ajimobi family, with many describing the loss as another painful moment for one of Oyo State’s most prominent political families.

The late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who served as governor of Oyo State from 2011 to 2019, died on June 25, 2020, at the age of 70 after battling complications related to COVID-19. He was the first governor in the state’s history to serve two consecutive terms and was widely credited with major infrastructure renewal projects and reforms in Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State.

Following his death, tributes poured in from across Nigeria, with President Bola Tinubu, then the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) describing Ajimobi as “a dedicated friend, brother and ally” whose contributions to the party and the country would not be forgotten.

Teslim Ajimobi largely stayed out of frontline politics but remained closely associated with the Ajimobi family and was known among friends and associates in Oyo State.

His death, coming on the anniversary of his elder brother’s passing, has added a poignant chapter to the family’s history and prompted renewed tributes to the legacy of the former governor.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
