The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, on Tuesday, adopted a former Commissioner for Rural Development, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, as its consensus candidate for the position of Chairman.
The decision was reached at an emergency meeting of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the Lagos APC, ahead of the State congress slated for Saturday.
The GAC, according to a source, zoned the position of Chairman to Lagos West, while Lagos East got Secretary and Woman Leader.
Ojelabi, who is from Ojo Local Government in the Lagos West Senatorial District, is set to replace Alhaji Tunde Balogun — from Apapa in Lagos Central — who was recently sacked over allegations of corruption.
He was elected Chairman of Ojo Local Government in 1997 on the platform of the defunct Grassroots Democratic Party (GDM).
Ojelabi became the first elected Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area, three months after serving as Executive Secretary of the same LCDA.
Between 2007 and 2011, he was a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Ojo Federal Constituency. Thereafter he was appointed the Commissioner for Rural Development under the Babatunde Fashola administration between 2011 and 2015.
