Lagos Diaspora Group Endorses Obafemi Hamzat for 2027 Governorship Race

A diaspora political support group, Lagos Diaspora for Hamzat 2027, has formally declared support for the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, ahead of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primaries scheduled for May 21, 2027.

The endorsement was announced during an international press conference held in London, United Kingdom, on Monday, May 17, 2027.

Speaking at the event, the group said its members across the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East were fully committed to mobilising political, intellectual, diplomatic, media, and grassroots support for Hamzat’s governorship ambition.

According to the group, the endorsement was based on what it described as Hamzat’s “verifiable competence, proven leadership, tested loyalty, intellectual depth, administrative experience, and commitment to the growth and transformation of Lagos State.”

The diaspora coalition stated that Lagos required experienced leadership capable of sustaining progressive governance and addressing the demands of a modern mega city.

The group noted that Hamzat, through his role as deputy governor, had demonstrated strong understanding of governance, infrastructure, transportation, education, technology, and urban development.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Acting Global Director and Convener, Ayodeji Rilwan Tinubu, said Lagos remained the economic heartbeat of Nigeria and required leadership with strategic vision and administrative stability.

The group added that many Lagosians abroad continued to contribute to the state’s economy through investments, remittances, businesses, education, and property development, stressing that they desired a “safer, smarter, and economically stronger Lagos.”

They also called for greater youth empowerment, improved transportation systems, modernised education, efficient public institutions, and people centred governance.

“Politics should not only be about noise or popularity. It should be about capacity and results. Lagos cannot afford experimentation. Lagos requires steady hands and strategic minds,” the group stated.

Lagos Diaspora for Hamzat 2027 further urged Lagosians both at home and abroad to participate actively in the democratic process and support leaders with competence, accessibility, and commitment to public service.

The statement was jointly signed by Ayodeji Rilwan Tinubu, Acting Global Director and Convener of Lagos Diaspora for Hamzat 2027, and Otunba Eyitayo Ogunmola, Acting Secretary General of the group.
