Lagos APC Primaries: Desmond Elliot, Gbolahan Ogunleye, Femi Saheed lose reelection bids

Reports reaching BlackBox Nigeria indicate that at least three incumbent members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have lost their reelection bids in the ongoing All Progressives Congress, APC, primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In Kosofe Constituency II, Femi Saheed lost to the Lagos State APC Youth Leader, Dr. Muritala Seriki. Saheed, who entered the House through a by election following the death of his predecessor, Tunde Buraimoh, failed to secure the party’s ticket for another term. Dr. Seriki reportedly polled over 16,000 votes to emerge as the APC candidate for the constituency.

Similarly, Gbolahan Ogunleye, son of former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Abiodun Ogunleye, lost his reelection bid in Ikorodu Constituency I. Ogunleye was defeated by Toyin Gafaar Bolowotan, former Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission.

Bolowotan secured about 83% of the total votes cast across the constituency to emerge victorious in the contest despite having one ward result outstanding. The election also featured two other aspirants. Ogunleye had faced criticism from some constituents over his performance in office.

In Surulere Constituency I, Nollywood actor and lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, also lost his bid for another term. He was defeated by Barrister Barakat Odunuga, a former Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu. Odunuga reportedly won across polling centres in the constituency as party members turned out in large numbers to support her candidacy.

BlackBox Nigeria will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as results emerge from other constituencies.
