In an unforseen change of plans, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will no longer hold the formal unveiling of Senator Kashim Shettima as its vice-presidential candidate, as scheduled.
The ceremony was billed to hold at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, but to the shock of the guests and journalists present, it was indefinitely postponed minutes before commencement.
It was gathered that the APC said a new date for the event would be announced, though it failed to disclose reasons for the indefinite postponement.
It would be recalled that the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu had announced Shettima as his running mate for the 2023 polls.
The choice of the former Borno State governor has since generated controversy in the party and beyond, as many faulted the decision of the APC to settle for a Muslim-Muslim ticket despite initial criticisms against such move.
However, Tinubu had defended his selection of a Muslim running mate, arguing that the choice of Shettima was informed by the latter’s competence.
“But religion, ethnicity and region cannot always and fully determine our path. To forge ahead as a nation toward development and prosperity, we must break free of old binds,” he had said in a statement.
