Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo is undoubtedly one of the most admirable Nigerian leaders at the moment for a number of tech-savvy young people. The nation’s number two citizen, unlike his principal, enjoys a strong presence on different social media platforms.
Thanks to his well-edited pictures and interesting posts, Osinbajo has since become a darling of netizens. On the popular microblogging platform, Twitter, he currently boasts of 3.9 million followers, while his verified Instagram page has also amassed over 929,000 followers.
Interestingly, the Vice President only follows two accounts on Instagram: his wife, Dolapo and his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari. In other words, he is only interested in whatever his principal and his darling partner shares on the app. Think of a loyal deputy and a dotting husband trapped in one body. Beautiful, isn’t it?
Though the real reason for Osinbajo’s decision to keep up with only the duo remains unexplained, the move may not be unconnected to the “follow nobody” rule, a common strategy used by most celebrities to cancel the inevitable distractions that come with following multiple accounts. By following zero or few accounts, irrelevant posts and contents are avoided.
So it’s safe to say the 65-year-old politician, whose presidential bid hit the rocks, isn’t a fan of social media noise, and would rather catch up on the activities of the people that matter most to him, as his stay at Aso Rock nears an end.
