Global ride-hailing company, Uber, has ended its operations in Nigeria after 12 years, with the shutdown taking effect on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
The company announced the decision in a message to users, saying it followed a “thorough review” of its business operations.
Uber, which launched in Lagos in 2014, thanked Nigerians for using its platform over the years and apologised for the disruption the exit may cause.
The company said its decision to leave Nigeria is part of a review of its evolving business priorities and investment focus. It is also winding down operations in Uganda, while maintaining its services in other African markets.
Uber said its help centre would remain available until September 23 for customers with final account-related enquiries.
The exit marks the end of Uber’s 12-year presence in Nigeria and is expected to reshape the country’s competitive ride-hailing market.
