Veteran actor and broadcaster, Sadiq Daba, breathed his last on Wednesday, after a long battle with leukemia and prostate cancer.
His passing came as shocking to many Nigerians as many has taken to social media to share their condolences.
Here are five things to know about the late TV icon.
1. Sadiq Daba had his secondary education at St. Edward’s Secondary School. He was said to possess several higher degrees in many institutions including Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.
2. He worked as a broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for over three decades until he retired. His acting career came to prominence in the late 1970s, starring in “Cockcrow at Dawn.”
3. Daba is best known for his role as “Inspector Waziri” in the Kunle Afolayan’s psychological thriller “October 1”. His performance bagged him an Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in 2015.
4. In 2018, he was given the title “Garkuwan Nollywood,” (when translated from Hausa language it means “Shield of Nollywood” by the stakeholders in the industry.
5. Daba was diagnosed with leukemia and prostate cancer in 2017. His health was a source of concern, as several Nigerians including billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola donated money for his treatment abroad.
