Felony: Police Commissioner orders prosecution of man who attempted suicide in Lagos

The Police Commissioner wants Mr Odukoya prosecuted for attempting to take his own life

For attempting to take his own life, the Lagos State Police Command Commissioner, CP Edgal Imohimi has given orders that a certain Folarin Odukoya be charged to court.

Mr. Folarin Odukoya, a staff of China Construction Company of Nigeria Limited (CCCN), BlackBox Nigeria has gathered attempted committing suicide but was rescued by officers of the Nigerian Police Force.

According to a statement by the Lagos Police Spokesman, SP Chike Oti, Folarin Odukoya had on Sunday, December 17, 2017 jumped into the Lagos Lagoon around the Ebute Ero jetty. His intention was to take his own life but it was foiled by Police officers who had arrived the scene with local divers following the raise of alarm by a Police Sergeant, Bankole Adekoya.

According to Oti, Bankole Adekoya’s vigilance saved the Odukoya’s life as the Police Sergeant “observed the man critically and reasoned that he was up to something sinister and thus informed the Ebute Ero Divisional Police Officer, SP Sina Olunlade who arrived the scene with local divers. The felon on sighting the police team, jumped into the lagoon near the Ebute Ero Jetty.”

The statement which referred to Folarin Odukoya as a “Felon” further revealed that the Police Commissioner had earlier charged all officers in Lagos “to be on the look out for suicidal men and women and to question anybody seen loitering around the bridges, river banks, swamps and lagoons with a view to ascertain their mission around the water bodies.”

The suicidal man is expected to be charged to court soon although the statement didn’t mention under what charge.
