Ex-Osun governor to bag honourary degree

The Igbinedon University, Okada, Edo State is set to honour a former governor of Osun State, Chief Adebisi Akande with an honorary doctorate degree in Political Science.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye made this known, saying the ex-governor was singled out for the award because of his astute leadership and democratic conviction, which the country had benefited from.

Betwen 1993 and 2003, Akande served as the governor of Osun State on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). The elder statesman was also the pioneer chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The award of honourary degrees, scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 27, is part of the University’s 19th convocation ceremony.

Other activities lined up for the ceremony include a movie premiere by the Benin Film Academy of the Igbinedion University productions titled, “For the Love of Isua.” There would also be an award of first degrees and presentation of first prizes and a lecture titled, “Global developments, implications for Nigeria and capacity building.”
