The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos, Oyekanmi Elegushi has announced that his withdrawal from the House of Representatives race.
It would be recalled that Oyekanmi, who is the younger brother of top Lagos monarch, the Elegushi of Ikate Land, had insisted that he would not relinquish the APC ticket to the incumbent, Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro.
Though he won the APC primary, some party leaders were said to have prevailed on the younger Elegushi to step down. But his supporters kicked against the move and staged a peaceful protest.
However, in a statement posted on his Twitter page on Friday, the lawyer said he has chosen to respect the wishes of the leadership of his party.
To all my supporters, the good people and delegates of Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, who elected me to represent our great party, APC, in the Federal House of Representative Eti-Osa Constituency, I appreciate you all and thank you for your immense and unwavering support.

He announced his decision to withdraw his aspiration to back the second term bid of Obanikoro, though it was a difficult decision for him.
“Following conversations with the leadership of our great party the All Progressive Congress, I hereby choose to respect the wishes of the leadership of our party,” the statement read in part.
“Though this is a difficult decision for me, I wish to inform you all of my decision to withdraw my candidacy for the Member Federal House of Respresentative, Eti-Osa Constituency.
“I am appealing to all my supporters who supported me to represent our constituency at the Federal House of Representative to join me in respecting the wishes of the leadership of our great party and to support our great party’s candidate in the forthcoming elections.
“Even as I withdraw my candidacy to represent my people at the Federal House of Representatives, all the good works/plans promised to the people of Eti-Osa constituency will continue. Thank you all for your continued support. I remain your faithful servant and friend.”
