Suspected bandits have launched a fresh attack on Kemanji village in Kaiama Local Government Area, killing several people, including soldiers, in the latest wave of violence to hit the state.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the community on Monday, opening fire on both residents and security operatives. The assault reportedly left multiple casualties, with soldiers among those killed during the attack.

Details of the incident remain sketchy, but sources say the attackers operated freely in the area, forcing residents to flee for safety as gunshots rang through the community.

The attack adds to growing insecurity in Kaiama axis of Kwara State, where communities have faced repeated assaults by armed groups in recent months.

Earlier incidents in the area include deadly raids on nearby communities such as Woro and Nuku, where large-scale killings and abductions were recorded, highlighting the expanding threat of armed groups in the region.

Security analysts warn that the persistent attacks suggest a widening security gap in parts of north-central Nigeria, with rural communities increasingly vulnerable to armed violence.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no detailed official statement from security authorities on the Kemanji attack, including the exact number of casualties or arrests made.

Residents have continued to call for increased security presence, fearing further attacks if urgent measures are not taken.

The incident underscores the worsening security situation in Kwara, as banditry and insurgent-linked activities continue to spread beyond Nigeria’s traditional conflict zones.
