Fresh violence has hit Plateau State, with gunmen killing several people and injuring others in a late-night attack on a community in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the area around 11 p.m., opening fire on residents and causing widespread panic as people fled their homes for safety.
Local sources said the assault left at least six people dead, while about eight others sustained injuries in the attack, which has thrown the affected community into mourning.
Community representatives confirmed the incident, noting that the renewed violence has heightened fear among residents already grappling with recurring attacks in the area.
The latest assault adds to a growing pattern of insecurity in Plateau State, where communities particularly in Riyom and Barkin Ladi have witnessed repeated attacks linked to longstanding tensions and armed violence.
Security agencies are yet to release a detailed official statement on the incident, including the identities of the attackers or arrests made.
Plateau State has remained one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions, with frequent clashes and raids leading to loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of property.
The situation remains tense as residents call for increased security presence to prevent further attacks.
