The All Progressives Congress, APC, has postponed its governorship primary election in Kwara State to Friday.

The postponement was confirmed on Thursday by the Kwara APC Chairman, Sunday Fagbemi, during the ongoing primary process in Ilorin.

According to Fagbemi, officials from the party’s national headquarters directed that the exercise be shifted, although no official reason was provided for the decision.

“We do not have details for the cancellation other than the fact that the team from the national office came and instructed that the election should be held tomorrow,” he said.

Meanwhile, eight governorship aspirants have reportedly stepped down in support of Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, believed to be the preferred successor to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The development followed a strategic meeting held on Wednesday involving Seriki and key stakeholders within the party.

Those said to have withdrawn from the race in support of Seriki include Dr. Salako Oluwatoyin, Capt. Ahmad Mahmoud, Prof. Wale Sulaiman, Dr. Mohammed Bio, Dr. Toyin Alabi and Hajiya Aisha Patigi.

Others are Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe and Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu.

Sources at the meeting said party leaders resolved to maintain unity, ensure a peaceful primary process and sustain the programmes of the AbdulRazaq administration.
