Activist and political figure, Aisha Yesufu, has resigned her membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where she has declared her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu made the announcement on Wednesday via a statement shared on her X account, attributing her decision to what she described as a clearer vision of Nigeria’s future and her continued political alignment with former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who recently moved to the NDC.

According to her, the coming days will be critical in shaping the country’s direction, stressing that her move was driven by a commitment to support leadership she believes represents national progress.

“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation. This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the ADC to join the NDC, as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works,” she stated.

The activist explained that her earlier decision to join the ADC was influenced by her support for Obi, noting that her defection to the NDC is a continuation of that political stance.

“When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour that promise, I am joining the NDC,” she added.

Confirming her political ambition, Yesufu said she would be contesting the FCT senatorial seat on the platform of the NDC.

“This time, I am joining the NDC not just as a member, but as one running for the FCT senatorial seat,” she said.

She described her exit from the ADC as a smooth and complete transition, noting that she had fulfilled her responsibilities within the party. Yesufu also expressed appreciation to party members for the opportunity to serve in various roles.

“I was fortunate to work with great and dedicated people whose goal was a better country. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair, and secretary at different levels,” she said.
