A former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Adebayo Adelabu has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Oyo State for the 2023 polls.
BlackBox Nigeria had reported that Adelabu, also known as Penkelemesi, dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) after losing the party’s guber ticket to Senator Teslim Folarin.
In the 2019 elections, the banker turned politician was the APC governorship candidate in the state but lost to the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde, who is currently seeking re-election.
On Wednesday, Adelabu was affirmed as the candidate of the Accord Party at a ceremony held at the Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
His emergence was made possible after the initial governorship candidate of the party, Ayodele Oyajide, stepped down and relinquished his mandate to Adelabu in the presence of the party’s National Chairman, Mohammed Nalado, the party Chairman in Oyo, Ojo Kolade, and other stakeholders.
The event was also witnessed by the Administrative Secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State, Biodun Amosu.
Accepting the nomination, Adelabu described his emergence as a “divine arrangement” to change Oyo State.
