He Is A Perfect Fit- Presidency Backs Abubakar’s Appointment As New Spy Chief
Following critics outcry on the appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar as the new Director General of National Intelligence Agency, the Presidency has disclosed that he is a perfect fit for the job.
This was disclosed by the Senior Special assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu who spoke at the send off for Abubakar organised by presidential aides and State House staff members.
It will be recalled that just recently, Bauchi lawmaker, Senator Isa Misau stated that due process was not followed in the appointment of the new DG of NIA as proper tests were not conducted. Misau said the appointment was made based on Abubakar’s closeness to ‘the cabal’. Misau’s allegation was later approved by wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari who shared the video on her timeline. Read More Here
Shehu stated that Abubakar is only being maligned by critics but remain the most qualified for the job. He said the new DG has also the experiences needed for the job.
He said, “Ahmed Rufai Abubakar is a perfect fit who is most qualified for the job. He has occupied various top public offices in the agency in the course of which he received several awards. He left voluntarily to go to the United Nations as a Director.
”When he retired, he was appointed as a senior adviser in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) regional coalition of countries for the fight against Boko Haram and other trans-border security threats in the region. There is no doubt at all as to Mr. Abubakar’s qualifications for the job and that is what is most important.”
Until his new appointment, Abubakar was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.
