Uniform Wahala! Customs Boss Soft Pedals, Writes Senate Himself

The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col Hameed Ibrahim Ali has written to the Senate himself stating his reasons for being absent earlier and how he is seeking legal advice on wearing of the uniform as requested by the legislators.

It was gathered that the Customs boss had earlier neglected his invitation to appear before the Senate Committee in his uniform, a situation which have since caused sparks between the para-military outfit and the National Assembly.

It was also gathered that the Comptroller General reportedly handed another letter to the National Assembly, urging the Senate to reschedule his appointment till another day.

Recalled that the President of the Senate, Sen. Bukola Saraki, earlier insisted that Ali must appear before the lawmakers on Wednesday and in the appropriate uniform.

It was reported that the Customs boss signed the second letter written to the Senate President unlike the first one which was reportedly signed by Deputy C.G of customs.

Ali, however, noted that “he is seeking legal advise” on the directive of the Senate that he should wear a uniform to avoid running foul of the laws of the land.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that Ali’s letter was part of the outcome of the meeting held with President Muhammadu Buhari and leadership of the National Assembly late Tuesday.

It was alleged that Buhari warned all his appointees of not engaging the legislature in a way that will cause disagreement between the Executives and Legislatures.

See the content of the letter below…

Regarding the wearing of uniform, I wish to advise that the Senate avails itself of the legal basis of its decision to compel me to wear uniform.

I am similarly seeking legal advice on this issue so that both the Senate and I will operate within the proper legal framework.

I regret my inability to answer the Senate invitation owing to a recent bereavement. I will however, make myself available whenever i am needed in future.
